Very excited…I just wrapped up a fun 4-page feature for Cosmopolitan magazine, a sexy/sassy essay coming soon to a newsstand near you. As beauty editor of Bella magazine, I get to write about the most beautiful things! Here are all the pages I wrote for the current holiday issue–on newssstands now. Oooh, and I also write a CURRENT OBSESSIONS column for the publication. Check out all my recent lust-haves.

The Wishing Tree

It began when I was in the third grade. I would carefully creep down the hall  through the darkness, and turn on the Christmas tree lights. I’d lie beside it, almost underneath it, and make a secret wish. They started off so simple—-things I deeply wanted but exceeded my grasp. A baby doll; a Barbie dream house. As I got older, they grew deeper. A call from a boy in my
class. And more meaningful. Please say it’s benign. The ritual was all mine.

Until last year.

“Shh, come with me,” I said, scooping my 7-year-old daughter from her bed, a few days before Christmas. “What are we doing?” she asked half asleep.

“You’ll see.” While I was making my wish that night, it dawned on me that my daughter was deep enough to appreciate this. This was a girl who, at 5 years old, said she was “waiting to be born because she always wanted to meet me.” So I knew this secret wish would be something she could wrap her sweet mind around.

I placed two couch pillows on the hardwood floor, guided her to look deep into the blinking lights, almost beyond it, and make a private wish. She softly giggled, squeezed my hand, and insisted we tell each other what we wished for because (wisely enough) we could help each other’s wish come true. We breathed our wishes in each other ears. Me: A safe and fun family ski trip to Lake Placid. Her: A super-sized stuffed teddy bear. Yikes! That was not on her list.

The next day, I found a gigantic teddy bear at Marshall’s. I strapped him in a seat belt and drove him home feeling lucky because I know one day her wishes will extend beyond my reach. They will grow as she does—-deeper, and more meaningful.

Newsday: I report on a health topic about once a month. So far I have covered:  1. how althletes avoid injury, 2. the benifits of yoga, 3. knee gel injections, 4. how to remove a tattoo, 5. fitness moves you can do at home, 6. the best foods to eat to get glowing skin, and others.  You can take a peek at my Newsday articles right here.
